Roland keeps making changes, and we love this one. Now the V71, V51, and V31 modules share the same concept, meaning the sounds and their internal workings are the same. So where is the difference? In the V71, some external functions, such as fade, output, or performance management, are different. The rest of the specifications of the V71 you will find in the V51 and V31.
This set offers the presence, the feel, and the layout of a traditional acoustic drum kit, but with absolute volume control. The V31 sound module will provide you with an incredible performance, educational tools, and wireless connectivity for playing, learning, and expanding your sounds. Whether practicing at home, performing live, or recording in the studio, the VAD316 will accompany you on your journey.

Unmatched Sounds
During the development of the V71 module for the V-Drums 7 series, Roland created a brand new integrated sound library in collaboration with Drum Workshop (DW) that brings an unparalleled level of realism and creative control to V-Drums. The V31 module comes with the same internal generator as the V71 to provide you with an identical combination of sounds and expansion path in a simplified interface. These ready-to-record sounds are designed from a careful selection of the best drum kits in the world and offer the detail, punch, and sound quality of the most expensive computer collections.
New Custom Sounds
Just like with the V71, you can freely change the sound set of the V31 module to always sound up to date. Open the Roland Cloud Connect app on your mobile device to access a growing range of V-Drums Instrument Expansions over your wireless network. Then, search for the sounds you want, download them directly to the module, and start playing.
Choose Your Perspective
Drum sounds exist in two different universes. One is the intimate and close sound of the drums when you are playing. The other is the produced sound you hear in recordings and live concerts, which is usually processed with equalizers, compressors, and ambient effects. Some Drums Instrument Expansions have been specially mixed for both profiles, the drummer and the producer, allowing you to create the musical experience you seek with just the push of a button.
Maximum Expression
Like the best percussion sound libraries for computers, the V31 module includes multi-layer sample playback and round robin randomization for a natural sound and stimulating feel that is unmatched in the world of electronic drums. Our patented behavior model adds the finishing touch, refining the sound with smooth transitions and artifact-free for each articulation.
Computer-Based Drumming
All kits in the V-Drums 3 series can trigger DW Soundworks sounds,* a revolutionary software instrument that runs as a standalone computer application or a DAW plug-in. Many DW Soundworks expansions replicate V-Drums Instrument Expansions, allowing you to switch to software drumming while maintaining the exact sound and response of the module.
* Included with an Ultimate subscription to Roland Cloud.
Expand Your World
In Roland Cloud, you have fresh ideas for drumming for a lifetime. The V-Drums Instrument Expansions add new kits to the module, recorded with the same detailed process as the main library. You can activate up to six expansions at once and combine bass drums, snares, cymbals, and other components from different kits. We also offer V-Drums Kit Packs created by top musicians and producers, which include many titles to faithfully recreate the kits used in the most influential songs of all time.
Roland Cloud Subscription Included
With the purchase of a V-Drums 3 kit, you get six months of Ultimate subscription to Roland Cloud, which provides full access to V-Drums Instrument Expansions, V-Drums Kit Packs, DW Soundworks, and more. Subscribe when the trial ends and stay updated with all the releases that Roland continually expands. Or cancel the subscription and keep your favorites forever with the purchase of Lifetime Keys.
V31 Module
With a large color display, direct controls, and an intuitive menu structure, accessing kits, volume levels, accompaniment music, practice tools, and more is easy. All of this is backed by ultra-powerful DSP and expanded waveform memory so you can enjoy a whole universe of creative expression.
Simplified Editing
The kits of the V31 come ready to play and offer you first-class sounds with just a turn of a dial. To add a personal touch, press the EZ Edit button to instantly change the sounds of the bass drum and snare, adjust the pitch and damping, balance drum and cymbal levels, and more. And if you want to go even further, dive deep into the module's advanced editing tools or use V31 Editor on your Mac or Windows computer.
V31 Editor will be available in late 2025.
Your Personal Drumming Teacher
One of the most appreciated features of V-Drums is the built-in coach mode, which offers a wealth of fun tools to develop your technique and play like clockwork. You have an advanced metronome, as well as classics like Time Check and Quiet Count, along with new features like Phrase Trainer for rhythm practice, Stroke Monitor for stick control, and Blast Beat for working on precision and endurance. V-Drums 3 kits also include Drum Pass, an exclusive Roland package of 100 interactive lessons from Melodics™ created especially for V-Drums players.
Wireless Freedom
The V31 includes a Roland wireless adapter that links to your network, allowing you to listen to and download sound content directly through the Roland Cloud Connect app on a mobile device. You can update the module wirelessly to always keep the system software up to date in the easiest way. You also have audio/MIDI Bluetooth for jamming with songs from your mobile, playing along with video lessons, and more.
Multichannel Audio and MIDI
Use the integrated USB audio/MIDI interface in the module for communication with DW Soundworks, V31 Editor, and other music software. And if you want to explore music production with a computer, you can capture up to 30 channels of audio in a DAW through a single cable.
V31 Editor will be available in late 2025.
Amazing Snares
Each V-Drums 3 kit includes an expressive 12-inch snare pad with an adjustable tension double mesh head, independent head and rim triggering, and cross-stick compatibility. The PDX-12 (TD313) has a narrow rubber rim that provides natural acoustic feel, while the new PD-12P (TD316) includes a chrome rim and three piezoelectric sensors with hot spot elimination and enhanced response. The PDA120LS (VAD316) offers extraordinary performance with advanced sensors and a narrow wood shell that looks acoustic.
Sensitive Toms
The TD313 and TD316 kits include the new PD-8H and PD-10H tom pads, which stand out for their feel and response. Designed for expressive and dynamic performance, these pads include a rubber rim derived from Roland's high-end pads, along with a displaced piezoelectric sensor that minimizes hot spots and provides precise detection on head and rim. The VAD316 takes performance even further with two 10-inch aerial toms and a 12-inch floor tom with narrow wood shells.
