The Shells
The Starclassic Maple shells use maple, the most popular shell material today due to its warm and clear sound.
For optimal vibration transfer from the head to the shell, the thinner the shell, the better. However, less thickness often equals less strength. Instead of simply making shells thinner by using fewer plies, Tama makes the plies thinner and then laminates them into a 6-ply shell. At 5 mm thick (bass drum at 8 inches 7 mm). This combination results in a shell that is thinner yet actually stronger than others of greater thickness.

Quick-Lock Tom Brackets
The "Quick-Lock" tom mounts equipped with the Star-Cast mounting system have some very distinctive and innovative features.
First, these mounts allow for quick and easy setup. But the true unique feature of these mounts is that once the tom is placed in a tom mount or on the tom legs, there is no need to set the memory separately to save the setup. Simply sliding the switch on the tom mount, the mount separates into two parts. When you remove the tom, the "memory lock" part remains on the tom mount.
These Quick-Lock tom mounts also have hidden acoustic benefits. These mounts also employ rubber coatings to further isolate the toms and enhance the resonance.

Star-Cast Mounting System
The Star-Cast mounting system always offers the maximum resonance and stability for Tama's professional toms. An aerodynamic design makes it easier to position the toms closer together for greater convenience. Additionally, an aluminum switch provides a lighter weight and a more authentic tonal vibration.

Die-Cast Hoops
Die-cast hoops not only affect the tuning, they also affect the sound. This is why the choice of hoops is so important for Tama's designers, who have chosen pressure-cast zinc hoops, which are made by injecting molten metal into molds. Pressure-cast hoops have more density and are more consistent in shape than laminated hoops, which are made by bending sheets of metal. The cast hoops make the tuning more consistent and easier to achieve because the tension screws always make proper contact with the hoop. Drums equipped with this type of hoops offer a sharper attack, clear highs, and resonant and much more powerful rimshots.
