The Shells
The Starclassic Maple shells use maple, the most popular shell material today due to its warm and clear sound.
For optimal vibration transfer from the head to the shell, the thinner the shell, the better. However, less thickness often means less strength. Instead of simply making thinner shells using fewer plies, Tama makes the plies thinner and then laminates them into a 6-inch shell. At 5 mm thickness (bass drum of 8 inches 7 mm). This combination results in a shell that is actually thinner yet stronger than other thicker shells.

Quick-Lock Tom Brackets
The Quick-Lock tom brackets equipped with the Star-Cast mounting system have some very distinctive and innovative features.
Firstly, these brackets allow for quick and easy setup. But the true unique feature of these brackets is that once the tom is placed on a tom bracket or on the base legs, there is no need to separately set the memory to save the setup. Simply sliding the switch on the tom bracket, the bracket separates into two parts. When you remove the tom, the "memory lock" part remains on the tom bracket.
These Quick-Lock tom brackets also have hidden acoustic benefits. These brackets also employ rubber coatings to further isolate the toms and enhance the resonance.

Star-Cast Mounting System

Die-Cast Hoops

This is why the choice of hoops is so important for Tama designers, who have chosen zinc die-cast hoops, manufactured by injecting molten metal into molds. The die-cast hoops have greater density and are more consistent in shape than laminated hoops, which are made by bending sheets of metal. The die-cast hoops make tuning more consistent and easier to achieve because the tension screws always make proper contact with the hoop. Drums equipped with this type of hoops offer a sharper attack, clear highs, and resonant and much more powerful rim shots.
