The Tama Starclassic Walnut Birch is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a professional snare. The shell is made from birch and walnut, a combination that delivers a defined attack and spectacular low end. Die-cast hoops and Evans heads are just some of the features that make the Starclassic Walnut Birch achieve a crisp and stable attack, no matter the style or venue.
Tama has discovered the perfect ratio of walnut and birch to produce a high-end snare that generates spectacular low frequencies, complemented by the clear attack and projection of the birch. The sound is familiar, yet distinctly different from previous Tama tones.

The Shells
The Starclassic Walnut Birch uses a hybrid shell combining birch and walnut, delivering a deep tone with the sharp attack of birch and the characteristic warmth of walnut.
- Zinc die-cast hoops
This hybrid shell combines the focused attack of birch with the warm, rich tone of walnut. The sound is not only sharp but also sweet and smooth.

Die-cast hoops
The hoops affect not only the tuning of the drum but also its sound. For this reason, the choice of hoops was very important to Tama’s designers. Zinc die-cast hoops were selected, made by injecting molten metal into molds. Die-cast hoops have greater density and a more consistent shape than “standard” hoops, which are made by bending metal plates. Die-cast hoops ensure more consistent and easier tuning because the tension rods always make proper contact with the hoop. Toms equipped with these hoops deliver a sharper attack, clear and resonant highs, and more powerful rimshots.
