Hoops
These hoops have a sound similar to that of a cast hoop, but they are lighter and less rigid, allowing the drum to "breathe" better and achieve maximum resonance. The 302 hoops produce a slightly more open and ambient sound than the cast hoops from Gretsch.
The straight edge of the new hoops is thicker and, as a result, will not damage your sticks like the old ones did. This hoop will provide you with a more open sound compared to the drier sound of the traditional Gretsch hoop.

The Shells
The Renown drums are made with Gretsch's classic 7-ply maple formula, with the edges cut at 30 degrees and the exclusive "Silver Sealer" interior finish. They are also equipped with Gretsch "302" hoops, the same hoop used in the Brooklyn and Broadkaster series. The Gretsch 302 hoops produce a focused sound like that of a cast hoop but are lighter and less rigid, allowing the drum to "breathe" better and achieve maximum resonance.
