The idea the time to design this drum was to get a Shell that offered greater tonal possibilities than the classic Shell of the series Collector's or the Classic Series. A Shell that was dark and warm but full of clarity and attack, in short, a Shell i'd like it..
After much experimentation a Shell 8 layers and a Gumwood core, it's not strange that it was used again the same combination of wood that has been so popular for decades. This is it drum has the authentic sound of the old sets the be-bop bands but manufactured with the latest technological advances to which we are accustomed DW.
The drums DW Jazz Series  has a warm and tonal sound spectrum absolutely perfect for both the studio or the live performances.

The Wood
In the heart of each Shell DW Jazz Series TM is a thick 3-layer rubber core (Gumwood). The soft rubber and porous wood offers a warm and round sound that can be complemented with attack resonant of the maple or the musical qualities the mahogany or cherry. DW Custom Shop Cherry uses a rotating cut of hand selected trunks. It is a very "musical" wood, which has a distinctive melodic clarity and a warmer tone than the maple. With heads 2-layer is a perfect wood for those who prefer a round and powerful bell.
These combinations can even blend into a kit to further customize the specific sound preferences. And unlike Collector's Series® or DW Classics TM, the drums DW Jazz Series they don't have hoops reinforcement, allowing a more open and less focused sound.
