The Byzance Dual cymbals have a "trashy" sound and short sustain. They are made in Turkey with the famous B20 alloy, meticulously following all the steps that have been used for centuries to create the best cymbals in the world.
- Dark, dry, and complex sound
- Made in Turkey with B20 alloy
- Perfect for jazz, funk, or moderate styles
The unpolished surfaces and intense hand-hammering may lead one to think that the sound of this cymbal is loud and aggressive when in reality, the Dual series at low volumes reveals its true dark and earthy tones.
With a deep tuning and a very personal sound, this cymbal has an "esoteric" character caused by the lack of polishing on its surface. Short decay with great contrast due to a unique combination of hammering and turning.
The Byzance Dual features a hybrid finish with an unpolished section and a polished edge. Intense hammering provides a more complex sound and shortens the sustain. The different surfaces can be used as different playing zones, especially in the case of rides.

The alloy
The Byzance series by Meinl is made in Turkey with the famous B20 alloy, meticulously following all the steps that have been used for centuries to create the best cymbals in the world. This B20 alloy is composed of 80% copper and 20% tin, an alloy that can be difficult to work with as it requires significant reworking and annealing due to its naturally fragile state.
