The alloy
Known as Zildjian Secret Alloy, this B20 alloy is composed of 80% copper and 20% tin. This B20 alloy can be difficult to work with, as it requires extensive reworking and annealing due to its naturally fragile state, but Zildjian has been using it for over 400 years.
Like all Zildjian cast bronze cymbals, they are poured and shaped individually from raw molten metal. Each casting is cooled and sorted by weight for each model of cymbal. Then, the cast pieces undergo a complex sequence of heating, rolling, shaping, hammering, and turning techniques unique to each model of cymbal. These cast bronze cymbals have a rich, full sound that improves over time. They also offer greater projection, clarity, and durability than any other cymbal.
